Talk on Wednesday Sep 07, 2022 at 15:00 Massimiliano Zanin, IFISC (UIB-CSIC) Abstract: Air transport, while being a highly engineered system, is also a complex one, whose dynamics emerges from the interactions between a plethora of heterogeneous elements, and develops over multiple spatial and temporal scales. Statistical physics naturally provides numerous tools for understanding its behaviour, and, not surprisingly, a large number of research works have adopted such view-point in the last decades. In this talk we are going to briefly review some applications, from the description of the global structure of airports through complex network theory, to the study of the dynamics of individual flights and of their interactions.
