IFISC Seminar on Wednesday Nov 24, 2021 at 14:30 Place: Zoom Seminar Title: Effects of habitat fragmentation on diversity patterns in a heterogeneous environment Speaker: Viviane Moraes de Oliveira, Departamento de Física - UFRPE Abstract: <p>Through a resource-based model, we investigate how the mode of habitat loss and fragmentation can affect the levels of biodiversity in an ecosystem.&nbsp;In our model, habitat loss is performed using a fractal landscape to adjust the roughness of the landscape. We show that both the mode of habitat loss&nbsp;and the level of environmental heterogeneity influence species distribution patterns. We observed a more significant impact of fragmentation on the&nbsp;number of species when fragments are more compact.
